....Structure
and Anti-Corrosion Mechanism of DACROTIZED films
....Photographs
shown below illustrate the surface cross-section
of DACROTIZED parts. The photographs were made using
a scanning electron microscope on cross-sections
obtained by fracturing samples after cooling with
liquid nitrogen. It is easy to see that the zinc
flakes overlap each other to form a layered coating.

....The process that creates the DACROMET
film includes converting a hexavalent chromium containing
solution to a trivalent chromium system which is
insoluble. This conversion takes place when the
coating is heated in an oven up to 300℃,causing
the polymerization of the chromium complex. This
system coats not only the substrate, but also the
surface of all of the zinc platelets and creates
the overall DACROTIZED film. Based on the above
facts, the anti-corrosive mechanism of the DACROTIZED
film is extremely efficient in providing anti-corrosion
durability. This is due to the combination of zinc
in a controlled galvanic protection mechanism, passivation
by the chromic acid and the barrier effect of the
zinc platelets dispersed throughout the poly-mer
of chromic oxide.
